Kids Aren't Political Tools (But Their Parents Are)
At least they aren't singing "Donald John Trump, mmmmm-mmmmm-mmmmm!"

Laugh at People Committing Suicide
During his speech to fellow Pint Tree Staters, Fochtmann began speaking about how more women should be involved in the Democratic Party in his state, when he interrupted himself and began sharing a thought he’d had about a statistic he had seen recently.
“Today, you know, I saw a thing, and it said a lot of men — white men — are committing suicide,” he said. “I almost thought, ‘Yeah, great!’”
This caused the Democrats in attendance to begin laughing .
“Then I thought about it little more, and I thought maybe I shouldn’t say that out in public,” he concluded.Yeah, maybe you shouldn't.

WaPo Changes the Title to Spin the Story
The title now says, Immigrants are going hungry so Trump won't deport them, but if you look at the URL, you can see the original, more factual, title: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/03/16/immigrants-are-now-canceling-their-food-stamps-for-fear-that-trump-will-deport-them/
So much spin! Did the WaPo get its inspiration from the Whirling Dervishes?
Eight paragraphs down the admit, "The evidence is still anecdotal — and The Washington Post was unable to speak directly with immigrants who chose to cancel their SNAP benefits." And the anecdotes they give are all about legal immigrants...then the put in a video aboutillegal immigrants undocumented immigrants. I'm not sure what's going on with that. It makes me suspect that the article originally, or at least was intended to, talk about illegal immigrants getting benefits but they changed the spin on it and no one thought to replace the video.

“This is a response to the climate of fear and terror that immigrant families are living in because of the Trump administration,” said Jackie Vimo, a policy analyst at the National Immigration Law Center. “These are unfounded fears. But they’re based in this environment, and they’re very widespread.”No, this is a response to news organizations and political activists trying to scare people. Did they react this way when President Clinton signed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996? That didn't allow legal immigrants to receive federal benefits for five years.
They do explain the illegal/legal question of where the benefits are going.
Undocumented immigrants are never eligible for food stamps, though they may live in a “mixed eligibility” household that does receive them. For instance, it’s not uncommon for undocumented parents to apply for assistance on behalf of their citizen children.Obviously no one is going to be in favor of denying children food, but if the parents are undocumented, can they declare any income? Is there any way to find out if their income is low enough to qualify for assistance? Is there a way to check whether they are wiring money to relatives in their native country? Foreign remittances (money sent by people in the US to people in other countries) in 2012 were estimated at over $50 billion. The amount sent to Mexico is about $26 billion. How much of that is from people who are here illegally? If you have enough to send, you have enough to buy food for your child.

Hoops and Everything
Telling one group of people they can't wear a certain type of jewelry or makeup because those things are popular with another group of people....
When students questioned the message painted on the wall, Alegria Martinez, a resident assistant at the college sent out this email:
[T]he art was created by myself and a few other WOC [women of color] after being tired and annoyed with the reoccuring [sic] theme of white women appropriating styles … that belong to the black and brown folks who created the culture. The culture actually comes from a historical background of oppression and exclusion. The black and brown bodies who typically wear hooped earrings, (and other accessories like winged eyeliner, gold name plate necklaces, etc) are typically viewed as ghetto, and are not taken seriously by others in their daily lives. Because of this, I see our winged eyeliner, lined lips, and big hoop earrings serving as symbols [and] as an everyday act of resistance, especially here at the Claremont Colleges. Meanwhile we wonder, why should white girls be able to take part in this culture (wearing hoop earrings just being one case of it) and be seen as cute/aesthetic/ethnic. White people have actually exploited the culture and made it into fashion.”I love how she says that white people made it into fashion. What can you say to that, other than, "you're welcome"?
Another student, Jacquelyn Aguilera, had this to add:
“If you didn’t create the culture as a coping mechanism for marginalization, take off those hoops[;] if your feminism isn’t intersectional, take off those hoops[;] if you try to wear mi cultura when the creators can no longer afford it, take off those hoops[;] if you are incapable of using a search engine and expect other people to educate you, take off those hoops[;] if you can’t pronounce my name or spell it … take off those hoops,” Aguilera said, clarifying that “I use ‘those’ instead of ‘your’ because hoops were never ‘yours’ to begin with.”I remember when feminism meant you wanted women to have the same personal, social, and economic rights as men. Now you have to be "intersectional". This is how you make enemies out of people who have no desire to be your enemy. This is how you get eight years of Trump.
